Twas the Night Before Christmas...

Being a proud disciple of Captain Obvious, I should first point out the irony of reading a "Twas the Night Before Christmas" post when it's currently 3 days after Christmas. This only seems odd to those who are either visiting my blog for the first time, or those who haven't been paying attention over the past year. As always I have an excuse. I'll pause a moment to allow the shock to subside... Please, stop snickering, it breaks my concentration... Fine, I'll continue. I received some new video editing software for Christmas. While it is much more powerful than Windows Movie Maker that I've been using the past year, and it should allow me to try new things and make better videos, it also has been very temperamental. Causing me much frustration since it's installation. Between random crashes, corrupted files and lost work, I almost gave up. Finally I was able to keep the program running long enough to complete the movie included in this post.

On Christmas Eve we all went down to one of the local hospitals (actually the one where Taylor was born). They put up a lights and music display every year for the holiday season. We had intended to go for the lighting ceremony a few weeks ago, but that day was cold and wet. Not necessarily the best place to be with a young child, especially since we were all still a little sick. As it turned out, going on Christmas Eve was very nice. The weather was cooperative and the atmosphere was great. I got quite a bit of good video and everyone had an enjoyable time. As an aside, after seeing how much difficulty I had in putting together the video, I'm very thankful I didn't need to make a soundtrack for the movie. The lights display provided all the music for the final product.

After returning home upon completion of our outing Taylor was fed and put to bed (I'm unsure what visions danced in her head). Linda and I finished preparing the house for Christmas morning. Well, Linda did most of the house preparations. I was busy doing Daddy work, this year it consisted of putting together a kitchen set for Taylor. I'm sure that will be a tradition to be repeated many times in the coming years. Overall it went together pretty well. We only have to order one replacement part for a screw that I broke off while attaching a handle. I'm proud to announce I finished the assembly with no extra parts. There will be more about the kitchen when I get the Christmas Day post completed and published.

Anyway, with all the disclaimers out of the way... I'll submit my very basic Christmas Eve post...

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, well… maybe a mouse.
The family was out, seeing the lights.
We strolled along the lake, taking in all the sights.

The weather was warm as a gentle breeze blew.
Mommy wanted it colder… a subject Daddy could argue.
The daughter was mesmerized by the lights and music.
She shared no opinion on the weather being tropic.

Taylor was too busy, exploring her surroundings,
Picking up sticks, touching the lights… and the ducklings.
We lamented the fact, we forgot to bring bread.
I guess holiday thoughts had filled our heads.

After we completed the tour, the lake we had been ‘round.
We found a nice spot and sat on the ground.
Watching the lights dance, listening to one last song.
It was resplendent and festive, enough to last year-long.

Times like these induce thoughts of friends and family,
In hope the season finds them content and healthy.
To one and all, we wish we could be there.
I’m thankful to be able, to make this video to share.

I hope you enjoy it, I know the poem was trite.
To paraphrase Dr. McCoy, “I’m a designer, not a playwright”
I’ll state it one time so my message is clear
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-year!”

I hope your holiday season has been wonderful this year. I have a lot of pictures and video of Christmas in our household. I've yet to find time to load it all on the computer and see exactly what we captured. Hopefully sometime within the next week I've have that chance. Needless to say, my Christmas post will be slightly out of date, but I hope the old saying holds true. "Better late than never." I will say it was enjoyable for all and much more interactive with Taylor then the previous year. Until next time, I bid you all adieu.
