Origins of Not Too Bad

 "Not Too Bad...?"

Perhaps it was the many hours sitting out on the lake by myself, or with Dad, fishing. Or maybe it was spending the summer growing up on the golf course, finishing up the First 9 (of at least 54) as they were opening the Clubhouse. It may have been all the time hiking through the woods. Hours spent silently watching (or waiting for) wildlife.

Perhaps it was ingrained while growing up in the Northern Woods of Minnesota, the land of understatement; For example, "It's a bit cold" means it's about -15 F. There's no reason to complain about -15, cause we all knew it could be -50 F... and Windy. If it's January, +5 F isn't horribly cold, in fact it's actually "Not too bad.".

Whatever the reason, probably a little bit of it all, I've always been one of few words. "Not too bad, How bout yourself." has always been a reliable and polite way to stay in a conversation. This Blog is for the people who ask me, "How's it going?" and actually would like to hear more then my inevitable response of "Not too Bad."
